Established in 1873, Arts and Sciences is Boston University's largest and most academically diverse unit, encompassing over 8,400 undergraduates, 2,000 graduate students, 800 faculty members, and 300 staff across 50 departments, programs, centers, and institutes. Our faculty are award-winning researchers, innovative teachers, and dedicated mentors committed to exploring the complexities of our present and past, uncovering new perspectives, and crafting creative solutions to real-world problems. Our staff are dynamic, mission-driven professionals who foster community, inclusion, and belonging to advance every aspect of the college enterprise. Our community thrives on collaboration, bold ideas, and interdisciplinary exploration. Join us in supporting the pursuit of knowledge that changes the world and provides boundless opportunities to inspire the next generation of leaders. We offer generous benefits, including health, dental, and life insurance, tuition remission, retirement savings, paid time off, and holiday leave. The core duties and responsibilities of this lab manager position are to provide comprehensive day-to-day management of different grant submissions and ongoing research projects, including identifying potential grant opportunities and assisting with the preparation of those submissions, preparation of new study materials for IRB review, tracking of recruitment and participant flow on existing projects, management of study data and documentation across domestic and international sites, and supporting quantitative and qualitative data analysis as needed. The individual in this role will independently manage large-scale, multi-site research projects on a day-to-day basis, ensuring that project timelines, regulatory requirements, study milestones, and deliverables are met across collaborating institutions. The position exercises substantial independent judgment in prioritizing competing deadlines, interpreting sponsor and institutional policies, developing operational workflows, and resolving project-related challenges across sites. Due to the time- or deadline-sensitive nature of many projects, the pace of work may be demanding at times. Projects are typically long-term and require constant attention to prioritization. In addition, the lab manager will oversee the daily operations of the research lab and will serve as the primary point of contact and operational lead during periods when the Principal Investigator is traveling for research site visits or otherwise unavailable, ensuring continuity of research activities, personnel oversight, and communication across study teams. The individual hired in this role will primarily work on intervention studies related to mental health, sexual and reproductive health, substance use, sleep, and the HIV/AIDS care cascade, in both domestic and international settings, as well as on projects that aim to mitigate disparities among sexual and gender minority individuals.

Responsibilities span the full lifecycle of grant-funded research, including pre-award preparation, study start-up, ongoing regulatory management, participant enrollment monitoring, data quality oversight, sponsor reporting, and study closeout activities. The position regularly interfaces with institutional offices, external collaborators, clinical partners, and community stakeholders. This position includes direct supervisory responsibility for approximately 10 undergraduate and graduate research assistants. The lab manager will oversee the full scope of supervision and personnel management, including leading in the hiring process and decisions, onboarding and training, task delegation, ongoing performance management, mentorship, and, when necessary, involvement in disciplinary and termination processes in accordance with institutional policies. Direct reports will assist with research activities across studies, including participant recruitment and retention efforts, data collection and entry, literature reviews, qualitative coding, and other project-based tasks as assigned based on study needs. The position is responsible for establishing performance expectations, monitoring productivity and data quality, and ensuring that research activities conducted by direct reports meet institutional and sponsor standards.

Ideal applicants will have a history of prior research experience, project management experience, and/or masters level training in psychology, public health, global health or a related field. Applicants may also have a strong interest in pursuing doctoral training in clinical psychology and/or mental health research in some other capacity. Applicants with broad interests in behavioral medicine, health psychology, health disparities, and/or mental health in global settings are strongly encouraged to apply. The applicant should be comfortable working with diverse issues related to sexuality and gender identity.
